In his book ‘Count It All Joy’ David Jeremiah, cites a poem that expresses the discontent so prevalent in our society.

It was spring
But it was summer I wanted,
The warm days,
And the great outdoors.

It was summer,
But it was fall I wanted,
The colourfull leaves,
And the cool dry air.

It was fall,
But it was winter I wanted,
The beautiful snow,
And the joy of the holiday season.

It was winter,
But it was summer I wanted,
The warmth
And the blossoming of nature.

I was a child,
But it was adulthood I wanted.
The freedom,
And respect.

I was 20,
But it was 30 I wanted,
To be mature,
And sophisticated.

I was middle-aged,
But it was 20 I wanted,
The youth,
And the free spirit.

I was retired,
But it was middle age I wanted,
The presence of mind,
Without limitations.

My life was over,
But I never got what I wanted.

Human beings will never be content until they find their salvation in Jesus Christ and they that are saved put their full trust in Him and His promises. Apostle Paul says,” I know what is to be in need, and I know what is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through him who gives me strength.(Phil.4:12,13). He continues, “My God will meet all your needs, according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Contentment isn’t getting what we want but being satisfied with what we have.This imaginary story has nuggets. Two little teardrops were floating down the river of life. One teardrop asked the other, “Who are you?”. ” I am a teardrop from a girl who loved a man and lost him”. ” But who are you?”. The first drop replied, ” I am a teardrop from a girl who got him”.

Life is like that. We cry over the things we can’t have, but we might cry twice as hard if we had received them. The best way to live a happy life is to learn the secret of being content with what we have. In the same chapter of Philippians Paul writes, ” Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God”. God is our source and he never dries up!
